Significant Achievements

While working in Kirloskar Pneumatic co. Ltd. Pune, I was responsible for obtaining collaborations and manufacturing for many AC&R products for the first time in the country, notable amongst them are

  1. Reciprocating compressors, with Grasso Holland collaboration consisting of 2 to 12 cylinder reciprocating compressors in single and two stage versions, suitable for Ammonia and CFC refrigerants. Today this company is the largest compressor manufacturer in the country.
  2. Semi sealed compressors with Westinghouse design in 5 and 7.5 HP, suitable for packaged air conditioners, were manufactured for the first time in the country.
  3. For the first time in the country, I was responsible to introduce indigenously manufactured centrifugal machines in technical collaboration with Hitachi Japan; these were in two sizes, 200 Ton -HS12 and 600 Ton HS-17 models. Many prestigious installations like international airports, five star hotels and industrial process plants were provided with these machines. More than 300 machines were installed.
  4. I was also responsible to introduce in India for the first time world-class screw compressors from Howden UK by entering into tie up for manufacturing license. These have been installed in many petrochemical plants, fertilizer plants and process industries. Howden UK is sourcing the components currently manufactured in Indian plant for assembling in their country is being sold under their brand name.
  5. In the year 1984 I was again the first to introduce transport Air conditioning units in India with a technical tie up with Sutrak Germany. Many tourist operators, public buses still continue to use these units manufactured in the factory for their use.
  6. Since I was responsible also for setting up in house R & D facility, we had developed enough expertise to develop a product; totally with our own resources and the notable product developed in house was manufacture of Flake ice machines. This product was again first time in the country and became very successful. More than 400 machines continue to perform in chemical/dyestuff plants, fisheries, and concrete cooling applications for construction in dams.

Besides the above mentioned product development activity and introducing new technologies in the country for the first time, I was also responsible for designing turnkey installations for various applications in the field of AC&R`

.Some of the most important projects where I was involved from the conception till completion are

  1. Hindustan Aeronautics Nasik - A Mig aircraft manufacturing facility where I supplied a test room operating at minus 80 deg C, uses cascade system.
  2. India's largest petrochemical complex at Baroda, having 2200 Tons of refrigeration facility at minus 27 deg C using 23 no. 12 cylinder reciprocating compressors. This plant was designed, manufactured and installed to the latest and most stringent international standards, under the supervision of India's leading consultants M/S Engineers India Ltd.
  3. I was also responsible to execute India's largest Air Conditioning plant at Delhi air port using 11 machines each of 1000 Ton capacity, followed by 6600 Ton plant at Mumbai airport.
  4. 4.5 million liter per day ice cream manufacturing plant in Nasik for Hindustan Lever, one of the world's largest ice cream manufacturing company
My special interest was Ammonia/CFC refrigeration plants for process cooling and for low temperature applications and executed many such projects under the most renowned global consultants like Udhe Germany, Power gas U.K. Krebs and Cie France, Humphrey and Glasgow from U.K.

Career

Started air conditioning and refrigeration projects division in Kirloskar Pneumatic in 1967 and worked there for 27 years. At the time of leaving in 1992, was Vice President of the Division.

In 1992 selected by Carrier USA to start its operations in Bangalore for manufacturing Truck and Bus air conditioning units. I was the first Managing Director of Carrier Transicold now known as Carrier Refrigeration. Subsequently worked in Carrier Singapore as Director Projects .

In 1997, joined Voltas and was appointed as Chief Executive to start operations in Pune to Develop/manufacture passenger car A/C systems for Telco Indica/Sumo/Safari vehicles.

Since June 2003, and is working as Technical Advisor to major leading companies like Voltas, Blue Star, Thermax, Kishor Pumps etc. in India. Besides consultancy to small scale companies
